THE PLACE OF ITS STILLNESS
(2016 - ongoing)
-"Toda luna, todo año, todo día,
todo viento camina y pasa también.
También toda sangre llega
al lugar de su quietud."
- "Every moon, every year, every day,
every wind walks and passes too.
Every blood also reaches
it´s place of stillness."
Catharsis means purification, liberation, transformation. Purge.
The Place of Stillness refers to a poem included in the books of Chilam Balam (tales about the historical facts and circumstances of the Mayan civilization) and is a visual study of the purification and purgation of emotions through dramatic art; an extreme emotional state that results in renewal and restoration.
A way to illustrate the limit, the end of the cycle, but also the released tension, the anxiety turned into a sigh.
With the aim to better understand how people use certain experiences to transcend the prison of their bodies and achieve a different state of consciousness I started to develop a dialogue between anthropology and art; mental health research and imagery.
The artistic research that resulted from this dialogue draws a map throughout this spiritual goal, in the search of forms of alternative perception; and that which is common to each and all of us: the burden of being alive and the task of evolving our own consciousness.
In 2016 I set out on a journey across Mexico. From its northern border (Sonora, Nogales) its capital (City of Mexico) to its southernmost limit (Oaxaca, Chiapas, Acapulco). In this project documentary photography dialogue with anthropological knowledge through the analysis of traditions and random events, in a quest for alternative ways to rethink our relationship with both the concept of consciousness and the quest of finding inner meaning and peace.
